The MAC
7 May - 31 May

This is an exhibition displaying the outline concept and Stage 2 design panels supplied as part of the Open Design Competition run by RIBA on OMAC’s behalf for the design of Belfast’s new arts centre, The MAC.

A two stage open competition was launched in February 2007 which attracted more than one hundred registrations from architectural firms around the world hoping to win the contract for the new £16m arts centre in the city’s Cathedral Quarter.

As part of the Open Design Competition all the competing designs were assessed anonymously by a panel of experts including renowned architects and OMAC representatives. Following this rigorous process five teams presented to the judging panel and a number of advisors, the team lead by Hackett and Hall were declared the clear winners.

Building our Children’s Futures: Best Practice in School Design

This PLACE exhibition showcases an architecture initiative that is designed to increase awareness and access for the general public into architectural design. As the most highly visible product of the arts, architecture has an increased level of responsibility to serve the needs of its citizens. The exhibition is curated by Marianne O'Kane Boal and is touring five other venues in Northern Ireland. The show will then culminate at PLACE in Belfast where a publication on education and architecture will be launched. This exhibition is funded by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland.
